BP Grows in the Northeast

Green Valley Oil will rebrand 235 sites in four states beginning in June

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- A new jobbership based in Providence, R.I., will help BP Products North America Inc. continue its expansion in the Northeast. BP will convert about 235 Getty-branded stores in Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts and New Hampshire as part of a supply deal struck with Green Valley Oil LLC, as reported in a CSP Daily News Flash yesterday.

Oleg Aliferov, a Getty jobber and owner of the newly established Green Valley Oil LLC, said he is working on a deal that will grant him ownership of the former Getty/Lukoil sites this spring. "I don't want [image-nocss] to disclose the details of the deal, but I'm taking over [those sites]," he told CSP Daily News.

Once that's complete, the BP deal will kick in. And while a BP press release said 235 sites will be rebranded, Aliferov said the exact number that will be rebranded has yet to be determined. "We're still thinking about how many sites we will rebrand. It's still a work in progress," he said.

However, the former BP sub-jobber said when he first heard the opportunity to "take over" the Getty sites, he immediately thought of BP for a branding partnership. "I worked with [BP] previously, so I offered them this opportunity and it turns out they're very excited about moving deeper into New England, and I share their excitement as well," he said. "I think this will be a good marriage."

For BP, the deal is "a natural opportunity to extend the BP presence" into the Northeast, according to BP spokesperson Scott Dean. "We currently have [stores] in New York and southern Connecticut," he said. "We believe our brand and marketing offer will be well received in this marketing area and that consumers will welcome the chance to buy quality BP products."

"BP is very pleased to be working with Green Valley Oil to expand the BP brand in New England," Corey Correnti, president of BP East & Gulf Coast Fuels Value Chain, stated in a press release. "BP is focused on growing its business in New England and building on its current marketing and supply presence in the region."

The deal "extends the reach of our East & Gulf Coast Fuels Value Chain from Florida all the way to New Hampshire," said Dean.

Green Valley will begin branding BP sites in the New England area in June. BP is committed to expanding the BP brand by establishing a strong local presence and offering quality BP products and compelling consumer offers, according to the company.

BP, with U.S. headquarters in La Palma, Calif., markets more than 15 billion gallons of gasoline every year to U.S. consumers through 12,000 retail outlets. BP's East & Gulf Coast Fuels Value Chain manages its fuels business in 16 states from Florida to Connecticut and the District of Columbia.
