Chevron Claims Better Gas Mileage With Techron

New marketing campaign to include social media and POP programs

SAN RAMON, Calif. -- Chevron is adding “unbeatable mileage” to the list of marketing claims about its Chevron with Techron and Texaco with Techron gasolines.

Chevron previously touted the ability of its Techron additive to remove built-up engine deposits. Techron has a polyether amine-based composition that provides it with cleaning capability, the company said. Now, Chevron Products Co., a division of Chevron USA Inc., is adding a gas-mileage claim for its fuel with Techron that has reportedly been tested and proven.

“Techron is an innovative fuel additive that helps our gasoline products minimize deposits, keep engines clean, keep exhaust emissions low and maximize performance,” said Dale Walsh, president of Chevron Americas Products. “We are proud to add unbeatable mileage to that list; the new claim is fully evaluated and proven by experts.”

Chevron said it is making the claim that “no gas gets better mileage” than Chevron with Techron without specifying usage conditions.

Nearly 8,000 Chevron- and Texaco-branded stations in the United States offer gasoline in regular, plus and supreme grades with Techron. Beginning in May, they will feature the new gas-mileage claim in a marketing program featuring several point-of-purchase (POP) elements. Chevron will also support the new marketing program with video (see below), radio spots, digital and social-media efforts.

San Ramon, Calif.-based Chevron is a major integrated energy company that explores for, produces and transports crude oil and natural gas, and refines, markets and distributes transportation fuels and lubricants, petrochemicals and additives.

Chevron is one of the few U.S. oil companies still maintaining a direct-operated retail network. Nearly 8,000 U.S. retail locations sell Chevron-branded products, and the major-oil company supplies more than 2,500 gas stations in Southern and Eastern states with Texaco-branded fuel. Chevron's retail network includes more than 800 company-owned and franchised Chevron ExtraMile stores.
