Dreyer Passes Away

Longtime OPMCA president, 81, retired in 2009

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- "It is with great sadness that the Ohio Petroleum Marketers & Convenience Store Association announces the passing of longtime president, Roger F. Dreyer, on April 4, 2011," the group said in a statement. He was 81.

It said, "Throughout his long career as an advocate, Roger F. Dreyer, was known as a man of forthrightness and integrity. He served as president of the [OPMCA] from 1962 to 2009, when he retired." (Click here for previous CSP Daily News coverage.)

OPMCA added, "Dreyer's farsighted leadership and passionate advocacy played a critical role in advancing petroleum marketers in Ohio and across the nation through decades of challenges--from fuel shortages, through the environmental age, around passenger rail proponents and passed proposals to move collection of the motor fuel tax to the rack. Confronted over five decades with a momentous series of challenges, his strength and dedication to Ohio's petroleum and convenience industry never wavered and his faith and love for his family remained steadfast."

It concluded, "The industry to which he gave so much will honor his memory in admiration and respect and will remember his name with gratitude.... Ohio's petroleum and convenience industry extends its deepest sympathies and condolences to Roger's beloved wife, Mary Sue and to the entire Dreyer family."

In existence since 1922, the OPMCA represents the interest of Ohio marketers, independent refineries, truckstops, retail chains and convenience stores. OPMCA members own and operate more than 2,900 facilities. Members market more than 52% of the motor fuel sold in Ohio. OPMCA's member share in Ohio is larger than the total market in 29 states. The OPMCA exists to provide professional services and support on legislative and regulatory issues, information services, educational programs, group insurance plans and governmental relations.

CSP sends condolences to Dreyer's family, his friends and his colleagues.
