The plaza, which will be located near the on-ramp to Terminal A, is estimated to be open within six months and will accommodate some of the 25,000 airport employees and more than 33 million people that visit each year. In addition, the plaza will service the cargo staff as well as the trucks and fleet sales from Port Elizabeth and the surrounding commercial businesses.

"As the first green airport plaza in the country, we are positioned to offer not only products and services to our travelers, airport staff, taxis and limousines, but can do it in ways that benefit the environment. We have a captive audience and will offer both value and convenience to our customers", said George Abi Zeid, president and CEO of GAZ Realty.

Clean Energy, the nation's largest provider of natural gas for transportation, is also in discussions with GAZ Realty to build a potential CNG fueling station on the property in the future.

The 3,200-square-foot 7-Eleven store will be offering 24/7 service, fresh and hot foods, Big Gulp and Slurpee drinks, grilled Big Bite hot dogs, its proprietary 7-Select snacks and beverages, prepaid and financial services. There will be 50 parking spaces at the plaza with approximately 20 available for the store.

"In addition to Newark, GAZ Realty is in final stages of lease negotiations or RFP awarded for number of major airports around the country (i.e., Tulsa International, Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International, JFK International and Southwest Florida International)," added Stefano Pascucci, vice president of sales and business development for GAZ Realty. Separately, after closing the location on October 8, Giant Eagle Inc. celebrated the grand opening of its largest GetGo gas station and convenience store yesterday in Pittsburgh, reported The Pittsburgh Business Times. The opening completes a project in which the company tore down and redesigned an existing GetGo, which had been a Crossroads c-store before Giant Eagle got into the convenience business seven years ago.

"We are confident that this new store with expanded fuel and fresh food offerings will be well received by the immediate neighborhood and daily commuters," Dan Pastor, Giant Eagle vice president of fuel and convenience operations said in a statement obtained by the newspaper.

The store has been moved to front on Morewood Avenue from its previous location on the corner plot that faced Baum Blvd., a repositioning that including tearing down the car wash and expanding the parking from a handful of spaces to more than 20 at a store where the gasoline pumps could easily become crowded in the past, said the report.

The new store sports a new interior decor package and a brick exterior to match its urban district, the report said.

Along with its eight fuel stations with 16 pumps, the new store will offer biodiesel fuel at four of its pumps.

Other new amenities at the revamped GetGo include a cafe area with flat screen TVs and Wi-Fi, a hot soup bar and four customer kiosk ordering stations.

The company is seeking The Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) certification for the new store, which is expected to be 20% more energy efficient and use green sources, the report added.

O'Hara, Pa.-based Giant Eagle Inc. is one of the nation's largest food retailers and food distributors with approximately $8 billion in annual sales. It has 160 corporate and 60 independently owned and operated supermarkets in addition to 153 fuel and convenience stores throughout western Pennsylvania, Ohio, north central West Virginia and Maryland.
