Kum & Go Acquires Two

Retailer converting Sinclair station in Omaha, as well as its first in Boulder

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa -- Kum & Go LC has completed its acquisition of two Sinclair gas stations, one in Omaha, Neb., and one in Boulder, Colo. With this acquisition, Kum & Go now has 19 stores in the Omaha area. And it marks Kum & Go's first location in Boulder.

"We are excited to continue our growth within the Omaha community by offering our customers in Omaha another Kum & Go store location," said Kyle J. Krause, president and chief executive officer of Kum & Go. "As always, we strive to go all out to serve our customers."

As of April 15, [image-nocss] the store located in Omaha is transitioning from Sinclair to Kum & Go. The changes include expanded food and fountain offerings and an update of the interior and exterior including a change in all signage. Additionally, all new pumps will be installed with Card Reader In Dispenser (CRIND) and debit capability, the company said. All changes are to be completed by the end of April 2010.

Customers can continue to expect friendly and helpful associates, a well-kept store and reasonable prices with this acquisition, it added.

Kum & Go has a history of charitable commitment within the Omaha community through sponsorships, fundraising and charitable contributions. The store will also continue to uphold the environmental values of the company with E85 pumps and energy-efficient measures inside the store.

As for the Colorado location, "the company is ecstatic to open our first store in Boulder," said Krause. "We look forward to becoming a part of this community."

The interior of the store and external structure will remain the same; however, officially the name will change to Kum & Go on April 15. By the end of April 2010, the store will be branded Kum & Go with existing equipment onsite.

Boulder customers can also expect friendly and helpful associates, a well-kept store and reasonable prices with the new ownership, as well as the same level of charitable commitment. Like the Omaha location, this new store will implement all possible environmental efficiencies.

In other company news, the chain recently held a major fundraising effort to benefit the Foundation for Springfield (Mo.) Public Schools. Kum & Go contributed three cents from every gallon of gasoline sold on April 8 at 41 of its Springfield-area locations to the organization, which supports the Springfield Public Schools.

This announcement came on the one-year anniversary of its expansion in the Springfield community with the purchase of 37 Cody's convenience stores.

Based on last year's sales on the same day, the company estimated that the contribution will be at least $8,000, but could easily exceed that amount depending on the number of gallons of gasoline that were purchased on April 8 this year.

West Des Moines, Iowa-based Kum & Go has more than 430 c-stores in 11 states: Iowa, Arkansas, Colorado, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota and Wyoming, with more than 3,600 associates. In addition to a variety of products, Kum & Go provides customers a proprietary mix of products under the Hiland brand name. Other proprietary product offerings include Java Ridge Premium Coffee, Napa Creek and Sea Ridge wines, Go Fresh Market sandwiches and Nuclear energy drinks.
