Lykins Oil Grows Wholesale Biz

Purchases Paul R. Wilson Oil

MILFORD, Ohio -- Petroleum wholesaler-retailer Lykins Cos. has purchased petroleum wholesaler Paul R. Wilson Oil Co. Inc., London, Ky., for an undisclosed amount.

Paul R. Wilson Oil was founded in 1956. Mike Hamm, son-in-law of company founder Paul R. Wilson, joined the business in 1970 and will stay on under the new ownership and will serve as central Kentucky operations manager.

"This is very exciting for me and our customers. This will be a seamless transition, with our staff and location remaining the same. Customers won't [image-nocss] notice any change in that regard; however, we will be able to offer them a wider range of products and services than ever before," said Hamm.

Lykins Cos. president, Jeff Lykins said, "With Lykins as the new owner of Paul R. Wilson Oil Co., customers will have expanded fuel options including alternative fuels like E85 and nexsol Biodiesel Supreme. Area gas stations and convenience stores will now have the choice of Shell, BP, Marathon, ExxonMobil and Clark brands as well as unbranded fuel. And residential customers will now be able to get their home heating oil and other petroleum products from Lykins."

Paul R. Wilson Oil is the second company Lykins has purchased in London, buying Curry Oil Co. last year. These acquisitions continue to fuel Lykins' expansion in Kentucky and its future growth, the company said.

Lykins also recently purchased Hamilton Oil Co., Georgetown, Ky.; J & L Equipment & Oil Co., Mount Vernon, Ky.; and DeBoard Oil Co., Mount Vernon, Ky, over the last year.

Lykins Oil is a family owned and operated business headquartered in Milford, Ohio. The company was founded in 1948 by Guy Lykins Sr., and it is now in the third generation of management. The company serves customers in Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana, as well as throughout the Midwest and the Southeast and provides five key services: branded fuels, wholesale fuels (supplying more than 130 independent dealers in 14 states), commercial, transportation and home heating oil (servicing more than 25,000 residences). It also operates nine Lykins Markets convenience stores in Ohio.

It has grown to become one of the 100 largest privately held companies in Ohio, it said, and one of the top 15 largest petroleum marketing companies in Ohio.
