Motiva Names Pease President & CEO

ConocoPhillips also makes senior management changes; Chiang becomes SVP RM&T

HOUSTON -- Bob Pease, former president of Shell Trading (US) Co., has been named president and CEO of Motiva Enterprises LLC, the refining and marketing joint venture owned by affiliates of Shell and Saudi Aramco. He replaces Bill Welte, who will retire November 1.

Since 2004, he was responsible for Shell's oil trading business in the United States, as well as a majority of Shell's worldwide trading operations in both oil and gas. With almost 30 years in the industry, Pease's experience encompasses all facets of the U.S. downstream business, and he offers a global perspective from his [image-nocss] years in supply and trading and his involvement in three joint venture companies.

Welte has served as Motiva president and CEO since 2004. He joined the company in July 1998 and was named general counsel in 2000. Before joining Motiva, Bill served as general attorney for Aramco Services Co. starting in 1982.

Houston-based Motiva's marketing operations support a network of more than 8,000 Shell-branded gas stations in the eastern and southern United States. Company assets include three refineries located in Norco and Convent, La., and Port Arthur, Texas, currently capable of refining approximately 740,000 barrels per day, and ownership or partial interests in 41 product terminals.

Separately, ConocoPhillips, also based in Houston, has announced the following senior management changes, mostly effective immediately:

John Carrig, currently executive vice president of finance and chief financial officer, will become president and chief operating officer. He will continue to report to Jim Mulva, chairman and chief executive officer. Jim Gallogly, currently executive vice president of refining, marketing and transportation, will become executive vice president of exploration and production. Willie Chiang, currently senior vice president of commercial, will become senior vice president of refining, marketing and transportation. Greg Goff, currently president of strategy, integration and specialty businesses for refining, marketing and transportation, will become senior vice president of commercial. Sig Cornelius, currently senior vice president of planning, strategy and corporate affairs, will become senior vice president of finance and CFO. Jeff Sheets, currently vice president and treasurer, will become senior vice president of planning and strategy. Red Cavaney, who will retire from his position as president and CEO of the American Petroleum Institute (API) on October 31, will become senior vice president of government and public affairs in November 2008. Fran Vallejo, currently general manager of corporate planning and budgets for planning, strategy and corporate affairs, will become vice president and treasurer of finance. John Lowe, currently executive vice president of exploration and production, has expressed his desire to reduce the scope of his current activities; therefore, he will now serve as assistant to the CEO. In this new role, Mr. Lowe will assist in the transition of his current duties, continue to represent the company in many of its external relationships and provide assistance on special assignments. Lowe will continue to work full-time until Jan. 31, 2009; thereafter, he will be employed by the company on a part-time basis.
