NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Nissan’s no-cost public charging program, whose partners include a couple of well-known convenience-store retailers, has expanded to 10 new markets.
The “No Charge to Charge” program provides buyers of new Leaf electric vehicles (EVs) with two years of free public charging at a network of participating locations. This could be either 30 minutes at a Level 3 DC fast charger, which can get an EV battery close to fully charged in that time frame, or 60 minutes at a Level 2 charger. Depending on the city, this could save Leaf owners up to $1,000 in charging costs, or up to $10 per charge, in those 24 months.
The markets joining the No Charge to Charge program are:
- Charleston, S.C.
- Charlotte, N.C.
- Colorado Springs/Pueblo, Colo.
- Greenville/Spartanburg/Asheville/Anderson, N.C./S.C.
- Jacksonville, Fla.
- Miami
- Milwaukee
- Palm Springs, Fla.
- Portland/Auburn, Ore.
- Tampa/St. Petersburg/Sarasota, Fla.
Some of these locations will be at Spinx convenience stores. The Spinx Co. Inc., Greenville, S.C., installed Level 3 chargers as part of the program at seven of its 80 locations in South Carolina this year, including in Greenville and Spartanburg.
And Ricker Oil, Anderson, Ind., joined the No Charge to Charge program in 2015 with the installation of chargers at nine of its Indianapolis-area Ricker’s convenience stores.
Nissan launched No Charge to Charge in 2014 and has rolled it out to 48 markets since then. It taps into the EZ-Charge program, which provides a single access card that participants can use at five charging networks across the United States, including NRG EVgo, Blink and ChargePoint.
