RaceTrac to Offer E15

Southeast giant adding ethanol blend to more than 100 stores

ATLANTA -- RaceTrac is adding E15, the 15% ethanol blend, beginning later this year.

The chain will roll out E15 to more than 100 sites in Georgia, Florida, Louisiana and Texas, over the next three years. According to A.J. Siccardi, vice president of supply and distribution for RaceTrac, the retailer is still determining how it will brand E15.

“RaceTrac’s mission is to make people’s lives simpler and more enjoyable and offering a variety of fuel types to appeal to our guests’ needs is one of the ways we deliver on that mission,” said Max McBrayer, chief supply officer for RaceTrac. “With the debut of E15 in more than 100 of our stores, RaceTrac is proud to provide our guests a competitively priced alternative-fuel option to complement our already diverse offering, which today includes other alternative-fuel products such as E85 flex-fuel.”

RaceTrac offers alternative fuels at 135 sites. E85, the 85% ethanol blend, is currently available at 70 stores, while ethanol-free E0 is sold at 65. In adding E15, RaceTrac joins chains such as Thorntons, Murphy USA, Mapco, Sheetz, Kum & Go, Family Express, Minnoco and Protec.

The Environmental Protection Agency has approved E15 for use in vehicle models 2001 and newer. The fuel blend offers a higher octane than E10, the 10% ethanol blend, and is often priced a few cents cheaper.

Emily Skor, CEO of ethanol industry group Growth Energy, praised RaceTrac for introducing E15.

“We are thrilled to have RaceTrac join our retailer family and look forward to expanding access to E15 for consumers across the Southern United States with them,” said Skor. “As a longtime supporter of alternative fuels, such as E85, RaceTrac is committed to providing its customers with a choice at their pumps. By adding E15, RaceTrac will bring even more renewable-fuel options to consumers, providing greater choice and savings to motorists.”

Based in Atlanta, family-owned RaceTrac operates more than 400 convenience stores in Georgia, Florida, Louisiana and Texas.
