Ricker’s Replenish program with GreenPrint tackles fuel carbon emissions with trees, clean energy

ANDERSON, Ind. -- Ricker Oil Co. is helping its customers take a bite out of carbon emissions.

The Anderson, Ind.-based company, which has 56 convenience stores in Indiana, has partnered with GreenPrint LLC, the Arbor Day Foundation and Keep Indianapolis Beautiful to launch Ricker’s Replenish, a reduced-emissions program.

The program, which is available at more than 500 pumps at the retailer’s 32 Indianapolis-area Ricker’s sites, calculates the tailpipe emissions of every gallon pumped to customers’ vehicles, and then invests a corresponding amount in projects that remove the carbon from the atmosphere. These can include tree planting, forest preservation and solar and wind power development.

“Anderson and Indianapolis are where our company roots lie and are home to our employees and customers,” said Quinn Ricker, president and CEO of Ricker’s. “We couldn’t be happier to be able to offer such a unique program, solely dedicated to creating a positive impact on our community and environment.”

Ricker's decision to partner with GreenPrint on a reduced-emissions program was announced last November. Through the Ricker’s Replenish program, the retailer plans to plant more than 10,000 trees in the Indianapolis area with the Arbor Day Foundation in 2016. It will also contribute to and host community tree-planting projects with Keep Indianapolis Beautiful. The program began in late April with the planting of 1,000 trees with the Arbor Day Foundation. Ricker’s also assisted in Keep Indianapolis Beautiful’s efforts at protecting a 300-year-old tree in Indianapolis’ Springdale neighborhood.

“The Ricker’s team is a fantastic group with a very strong commitment to their employees, customers and community,” said Pete Davis, founder and CEO of Atlanta-based GreenPrint. “We are proud and happy to join them in their efforts. As Ricker’s continues to drive innovation and thought leadership in the convenience-store industry, we are excited to stand alongside them as we work to deliver positive change.”

Also on the sustainability front, Ricker installed nine Level 3, DC Fast Chargers for electric vehicles (EV) at nine Ricker’s sites in the Indianapolis area in 2015. The chargers, part of Nissan’s No Charge to Charge program, can charge an EV in 30 minutes or less.
