Son of Former Crown Executive Dies

Brent Rosenberg killed in car accident in California
MALIBU, Calif. -- Brent Rosenberg, 23, son of former Crown Central Petroleum CEO Frank B. Rosenberg, was struck by a vehicle on September 17 in Malibu, Calif., while walking across the Pacific Coast Highway toward his home after parking his car, reported The Los Angeles Times. He was evacuated by helicopter to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, where he later passed away.

He was hit while walking toward his home after parking his car. Crossing the multilane highway, he paused at the median and one car stopped for him, but when he stepped farther into traffic, he [image-nocss] was hit by a Toyota RAV4 driven by actor Steven Bauer, 53. Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputy Dave Joyce told the newspaper that there was no indication alcohol or excessive speed were involved in the accident.

Rosenberg, from Lutherville, Md., had moved to Malibu in July to work as an analyst for Wilshire Associates, according to The Baltimore Sun. A 2005 graduate of the Gilman school in Baltimore and a 2009 graduate of Wake Forest University, Winston-Salem, N.C., the economics major earned a master's degree in management at Wake Forest the following year and was inducted into the Beta Gamma Sigma honor society.

"He was just a very fun-loving, generous, intelligent, good-looking kid," his mother, Ann Rosenberg, told the newspaper.

She said her son was born in London and the family moved to Houston and Atlanta before settling in Lutherville.

Gilman headmaster John E. Schmick said Rosenberg was "a very kind, very compassionate kid." As a student, "he could be a bit of a rascal at times," Schmick told the newspaper. "He had a wonderful sense of humor. He just had a real zest for life."

Rosenberg played soccer and lacrosse at Gilman and Wake Forest, said the report. He had also taken up surfing.

Laura Martini described her cousin as "extremely outgoing" and "always smiling. He had a sense of adventure," she told the paper. "He was a little mischievous, always in a playful way. As a kid, he was always testing the boundaries."

Frank Rosenberg served as Crown's president, CEO and COO. He resigned as CEO in 2003 to become executive vice president of business development for Rosemore Inc., the privately held parent company of Crown run by his father, Henry A. Rosenberg Jr., and his brother, CEO Edward "Ned" Rosenberg.

In addition to his parents, Brent Rosenberg is survived by his sister, Amanda Jayne Rosenberg, 22; his paternal grandfather, Henry A. Rosenberg Jr.; and his maternal grandparents, C. Russell and Eloise Lockwood of Arlington Heights, Ill.
