Speedway Prepares 3rd CNG Site

Chain partners with IGS to build Indiana location

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Speedway LLC has partnered with IGS CNG Services to install compressed natural gas (CNG) fueling at one of its Speedway locations in South Bend, Ind. This will mark Enon, Ohio-based Speedway’s third CNG fueling location and its first in Indiana. It also is the second site in partnership with IGS, a provider of fast-fill CNG fueling stations.

The CNG fueling dispensers will be at the Speedway at 6161 W. Brick Rd. in South Bend, Ind., at the State Route 31 exit of Interstate 80/90. The South Bend site will feature two fuel lanes with CNG. It is IGS’ 11th public CNG fueling site and its first in Indiana. Six stations are currently open in Ohio and three in West Virginia. One is under construction in Marengo, Ohio.

“We’re pleased to offer a cost-effective and domestic fueling option to fleets traveling the I-80/90 corridor,” said Mike Gatt, vice president of IGS CNG Services, Dublin, Ohio. IGS CNG is focusing on building CNG stations throughout the Midwest. Its services include ownership and operation of fast-fill CNG fueling stations; consulting and modeling to optimize ROI and capital requirements for fleets; and price risk-mitigation services.

Speedway partnered with IGS on a site last year in Findlay, Ohio. Its third CNG fueling station is in Monona, Wis., operated in partnership with a local gas and electric utility since 2013. In an interview with CSP Daily News in early 2014, Speedway president Tony Kenney said the chain was planning to open four to six CNG fueling sites in Ohio and Indiana, in partnership with CNG providers or utilities.

Speedway LLC, Enon, Ohio, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Findlay, Ohio-based Marathon Petroleum Corp. (MPC) and the second-largest company-owned and -operated c-store chain in the United States, with more than 2,700 stores in 22 states.
