Sunoco to Sponsor SIGMA Meeting

NASCAR's Childress to appear at reception

WASHINGTON -- Sunoco Inc. will show the Society of Independent Gasoline Marketers of America (SIGMA) a hometown welcome for this year's annual meeting in Philadelphia from October 21-23, 2005, the company said.

Sunoco's generosity will greatly enhance our ability to deliver a meeting well above our attendees' expectations, said Kenneth Doyle, SIGMA executive vice president.

By becoming the official convention sponsor, Sunoco will enhance all aspects of the 2005 Annual Meeting, from a Dessert & Cordials party on Friday to a [image-nocss] personal tour of its Philadelphia Refinery, the oldest continuously operating petroleum facility in the world, said the company.

As the official fuel of NASCAR, Sunoco will roll out the red carpet for Richard Childress, who is celebrating his 36th year in NASCAR racing in 2005.SIGMA meeting attendees will get a chance to meet the former driver and see one of his team's race cars at the Supplier Welcoming Reception.

According to NASCAR.com, Childress was the first owner to win championships in NASCAR's top series, Busch Grand National and Truck series, earning more than 100 victories. Childress drove his own car in NASCAR's top series from 1969 to '81, recording six top-five and 76 top-10 finishes. He finished fifth in the point standings in 1975 and earned top-10 points finishes in five of the eight full seasons he competed as a driver. Childress retired as a driver in mid-1981, naming a young Dale Earnhardt to finish the season in his car. Childress formed a second Cup team in 1996, added two Busch teams in 2000 and a third Cup team in 2001.
