Triangle Stop Switching to Marathon

Rebranding due to the Texaco brand's eastern pullout
HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. -- Texaco gasoline is being replaced with Marathon products at all Triangle Stop Food Stores, the Hendersonville, N.C., convenience store company has announced, according to a report by The Times- News.

Texaco, which is owned by Chevron, recently decided to pull out of 12 states, including North Carolina. The move meant a decision needed to be made concerning a new gasoline product for the business, Beau Waddell, vice president of Triangle Stop Food Stores Inc., told the newspaper.

"They are leaving, so we had to pick another brand," [image-nocss] he said. "In the long run, it probably is going to be a little cheaper on the gas prices."

Texaco's decision also means gas stations in the area that carry the Chevron brand will be switching in the near future, Waddell said. Texaco signs at the 10 Triangle Stop stores in Henderson, Polk and Transylvania counties are gradually being replaced with Marathon signs, he added.

The switch is expected to be completed by the middle of July, said the report.

San Ramon, Calif.-based Chevron is pulling out of 12 states and Washington, D.C., in addition to parts of Tennessee. The Texaco and Chevron brands will be history July 1 in North Carolina, Kentucky, Indiana, Montana, Kansas, Wisconsin, Iowa, Ohio, western West Virginia, western Missouri and a certain counties in Illinois.
