"Phil was a good friend and mentor to me," CSP Internet Group publisher John Callanan said of his former colleague. "He will be missed. Phil's story is very interesting and inspiringhe was a cancer survivor as a young man and was at PMAA for 22 years, a very long time by an association exec's measure."
Callanan added that Chisholmwas [image-nocss] at the helm of PMAA when it merged its trade show with the National Association of Convenience Stores' show. And he was a dedicated father of two boys and was active as a Little League baseball coach.Chisholm was also president of McLean Leadership Strategies, McLean, Va., a firm specializing in personal development, leadership and productivity improvement. He also sat on the NACS supplier board, and he was a columnist for CSP magazine.
Phil was the chief staff executive at PMAA for nearly two decades and helped lead the independent petroleum marketing industry through times of great change and challenge. Early in his tenure the National Oil Jobbers Council (NOJC) decided to change its name and become the Petroleum Marketers Association of America."Phil is held in high esteem by his peers and is still remembered for his exceptional lobbying skills," the group said in an update.
In the early 1980s many environmental groups began lobbying Congress for a new national law to regulate underground storage tanks and Phil helped negotiate the 1988 law on behalf of PMAA members. In the early 1990's he helped lead PMAA efforts to oppose President Clinton's proposed national BTU tax. He also spearheaded legislation designed to curb jobber subsidies paid to refiner direct operations.
