The growing Gen Z customer base will likely be a loyal audience for specialty coffee marketed as high in energy. According to Kantar WorldPanel, Gen Z’s coffee consumption is rising; 36% of 13- to 17-year-olds now drinks coffee, up from 27% in 2005. Fifty-five percent of 13- to 17-year-olds’ coffee occasions are because coffee “wakes me up,” compared with 48% of overall consumers. Function and energy also play a central role in teens choosing coffee; they’re more likely to drink coffee for “quick energy” or “lasting energy” than other consumer groups.
