CEFCO 'Hackers-R-Us' Event Sets Record

Announces $650,000 in donations to CMN, McLane Children's Hospital Scott & White

TEMPLE, Texas -- CEFCO Convenience Stores and parent company Fikes Wholesale Inc. announced at the 12th Annual "Hackers-R-Us" Charity Golf Tournament on May 14, 2013, that it donated a record $650,000 to Children's Miracle Network Hospitals and McLane Children's Hospital Scott & White.

"We continue to be amazed with the passion that our CEFCO Team has for these very worthy causes" said Brett Giesick, chief retail officer of CEFCO. "We are extremely proud of the commitment that our 2,500 associates exhibit towards helping these Children in need. Special recognition goes to our top-selling store managers, Karen Thurmond of Midland, Texas, and Alesia Hernandez of Collinsville, Miss., whose store teams sold 9,000 and 8,000 CMN balloons, respectively. Without the efforts of our frontline associates, business partners and customers, these results would not be possible."

The day was capped off with a $450,000 donation to Children's Miracle Network Hospitals and a $200,000 donation to McLane Children's Hospital Scott & White. Fikes Wholesale continues to support seven individual C.E. Fikes Endowed Scholarships that commemorate CEFCO's founder Clarence Edison Fikes in the communities that Fikes serve.

"James and Kim Fikes and our entire leadership team are honored to be able to give back to the communities we service," said Raymond Smith, president of Fikes Wholesale. "These efforts require a high degree of commitment and execution on many fronts, and we thank everyone who helped us during this record breaking campaign."

James Fikes, CEO and owner of Fikes Wholesale, said, "Kim and I wish to thank everyone for their support again this year. We remain humbled at the magnitude of the monies raised, and more so by the efforts of our CEFCO and Fikes team members, as well as the support of our business partners. We cannot think of more appropriate causes to help support, than those such as CMN and McLane Children's Hospital Scott & White, who do so much to help young people in need."

In 1999, CEFCO began its partnership with Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, with $700 raised in stores. CEFCO's 2013 fundraising total marks some exciting milestones for the organization. To date, CEFCO has raised nearly $2.4 million, with $1.845 million donated to Children's Miracle Network Hospitals and $550,000 for the various C.E. Fikes Endowed Scholarships and McLane Children's Hospital Scott & White.
