Cumberland Farms accepting applications for 2014 Believe & Achieve scholarships

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. -- Cumberland Farms has announced that for the eighth consecutive year, it is accepting applications from bright and ambitious high school seniors across its 11-state service area for the company's popular Believe & Achieve Scholarship Program.

Since Cumberland Farms began the program in 2006, Cumberland Farms has awarded Believe & Achieve Scholarships to hundreds of college-bound high school students.

"We established the Cumberland Farms Believe and Achieve Scholarship Program eight years ago because of our deep commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of young people," said Ari Haseotes, COO of the Cumberland Gulf Group and president of Cumberland Farms. "Moreover, finances should not be the barrier that keeps high school graduates from receiving the education of their dreams. We are proud to play a role helping to ease the cost of higher education and opening pathways to opportunity for our next generation."

As part of the company's commitment to nurturing the futures of young people, the program provides $1,000 scholarships to eligible graduating high school seniors across its service area. This past year, Cumberland Farms awarded $130,000 in Believe & Achieve Scholarships to 130 students in Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Vermont.

Through the help provided by the scholarships, students have been able to attend a variety of institutions, including Cornell, Yale, Central Maine Community College, the University of Michigan, Florida State University, the University of Pennsylvania, the College of New Jersey, Princeton University and more.

The program is open to students entering a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited college, university or vocational-technical school in the fall of 2014 who live within 30 miles of any Cumberland Farms outlet. It awards the scholarships based on a student's academic performance, as well as the student's financial need. Winners will be notified in the spring of 2014.

Information about the Believe & Achieve Scholarship Program, including entry criteria, is available online at https://cumberlandfarms.scholarshipamerica.org, as well as at all Cumberland Farms store locations. The application period began on Oct. 1, 2013, and the deadline to file submissions is Dec. 15, 2013.

Since formalizing its "Doing Good" Corporate Giving Program seven years ago, Cumberland Farms has donated millions of dollars in cash and products to causes that directly benefit thousands of young people through scholarships, direct-to-school programs, youth sports, local fundraising and more.

Cumberland Farms operates throughout the Northeast as well as in the Mid-Atlantic region and Florida. The Cumberland Gulf Group of Cos. is parent company to Gulf LP, one of the largest wholesalers of refined petroleum products in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic. In 2012, the Cumberland Group generated approximately $15 billion of sales through a footprint of approximately 600 c-stores operated under the Cumberland Farms banner and through the operations of its subsidiary Gulf Oil. The Cumberland Group, Framingham, Mass., is a privately held, family-owned and managed company that includes real estate and midstream gasoline operations.
