Convenience-store company continues commitment to sustainability

Several local environmental and health organizations, including Canoe Creek State Park, Rails to Trails, Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful and the Blair County Conservation District will attend the event to discuss ways in which employees can learn about energy efficiency and conservation, nature, health and well-being. Sheetz family members and the Sheetz Executive Committee will also plant a tree on the Claysburg campus to show the company's commitment to becoming more environmentally-friendly.

"We are known for our commitment to our customers, our employees and the communities in which we operate," said president and CEO Joe Sheetz. "Our Earth Day celebration is just another way in which we can organize an educational event to show our concern for the environment and our employees."

Sheetz takes significant steps to reduce its impact on the environment. The company incorporates energy and water efficiencies into the construction of each new Sheetz store and rebuild, invests in alternative energy infrastructures, donates surplus food to local food banks to help those in need and partners with Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful to remove litter from Pennsylvania's roadways, greenways, parks, forests and waterways.

Altoona, Pa.-based Sheetz operates more than 489 convenience stores throughout Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Maryland, Virginia, Ohio and North Carolina.
