7-Eleven to Run 6 Workman Oil Stores

Signs deal to operate locations in Roanoke-Salem, Va., area; re-branding begins this week

LYNCHBURG, Va. -- 7-Eleven Inc. has signed an agreement to operate six convenience store locations in Virginia for Workman Oil Co., Lynchburg, Va. The stores, located in Roanoke and Salem, Va., will be re-branded as 7-Eleven operations starting this week. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

"Adding these appealing locations in Virginia complements our store-development strategy of acquiring retail sites where we currently operate stores," said Dan Porter, 7-Eleven's vice president of development. "It also enables us to provide consumers with high-quality, value-oriented [image-nocss] fresh-food offerings and further leverage our regional daily-delivery distribution network."

These six Apple Market c-stores will remain open during remodeling, and stores will be equipped to sell 7-Eleven signature products, like fresh food and grill items, coffee, Slurpee and Big Gulp beverages.

The locations will eventually be offered for franchise. The company is franchising its U.S. stores and is expanding through organic growth, acquisitions and its Business Conversion Program (BCP). In the interim, 7-Eleven has provided employment opportunities to current, qualified store personnel.

This deal with Workman Oil brings the number of 7-Eleven stores operated and franchised in Virginia to just under 700 stores. Two of the new 7-Eleven locations are in Roanoke; four are in Salem.

Workman Oil is the operator of 45 convenience stores under the Apple Market banner in central and southwest Virginia and eastern Kentucky. It also owns 13 branded franchise food operations, 30 dealer accounts and fuel transports.

In March, Workman Oil acquired three c-stores in the Altavista, Va., market. (Click here for previous CSP Daily News coverage.)
