American Natural Retail Buys Buy-N-Fly's Mon Valley Petroleum

Separately, Delano Oil retains Station Break C-Stores in sale of TBA division to St. James Oil

MCKEESPORT, Pa. -- American Natural Retail, a company planning a network of upscale convenience stores and gas stations with compressed natural gas (CNG) in the Pittsburgh region, has purchased Mon Valley Petroleum, a fuel retailer and distributor based in McKeesport, Pa., according to a report by The Pittsburgh Business Times.

As reported Friday in a Raymond James/CSP Daily News Flash, the sale includes 15 Buy-N-Fly gas stations and c-stores, branded either BP or Exxon, which Mon Valley previously owned and operated.

Mon Valley's former president, Hartley King, declined to disclose the value of the sale but estimated the property assets alone were worth more than $2 million, said the report.

Separately, St. James Oil Co., St. James, Mo., has purchased Delano Oil Co. Inc., Tires, Batteries & Accessories. New owners Justin Gruver and Tom Farrar bought the business from Jay Delano, who will maintain ownership of six convenience stores in the area, reported Three Rivers Publishing.

"Reports of Delano Oil's demise (no doubt soon to be reported) are greatly exaggerated," the company said in a Facebook post. "We sold our TBA (tire, oil, etc.) section to St. James Oil, who will continue to serve our area's businesses superbly. Delano Oil, however, still owns six convenience stores/gas stations."

W.J. Delano founded Delano Oil in 1928. The company has six Delano Station Break Convenience Stores located in St. James, Rolla, Crocker and Dixon, Mo.

In the early 1970s, Delano started selling tires and oil, said the report. During his time with Delano, Gruver made it known that he would like to purchase the distributing portion of the business. Delano thought this would be a great business opportunity for Gruver and Farrar and sold that part of his business hoping to get them started.
