Atlas Oil Seals BP Deal

Michigan-based company closes on purchase of 57 sites in south Chicago suburbs
TAYLOR, Mich. -- Atlas Oil Co. said that it has closed on the previously announced purchase from BP Products North America Inc. of 57 locations in the south Chicago suburbs, and that Atlas Oil will begin to supply the locations. The sale includes a mix of retail locations owned by BP and several dealer-owned sites.

The company first announced its strategic relationship with BP in December 2007.

Atlas Oil will manage the sites from its South Bend, Ind., operations center where it currently manages the supply of more than 129 retail locations.

"Our acquisition earlier this year in Northwest Indiana provided a platform for growth in the Chicago market. It also demonstrated to BP our ability to use the platform we have built to quickly integrate new businesses into our company," said Mike Evans, executive vice president of business development of Atlas Oil.

In mid-September 2008, Atlas Oil closed on 23 BP-branded retail assets acquired from BP in the northwestern Indiana market area. The sites include a number of retail locations owned by BP, several dealer-supplied sites and an agreement for Atlas to operate six sites on the Indiana Toll road. In mid-January 2008, Atlas Oil closed on the acquisition of five Battle Creek, Mich.-area locations of R & J Inc. Previously, the company also rebranded two other locations in Dexter and Chelsea, Mich., just west of Ann Arbor, to BP as part of a new branding agreement with BP. Through this agreement, Atlas Oil began branding BP outlets throughout Michigan and Indiana.

"With their third acquisition in less than 12 months, Atlas is rapidly becoming one of the largest BP Jobbers in the Midwest," said Sean Daley, vice president of Midwest sales for BP Products North America, Naperville, Ill.

In other company news, Don Jensen and Greg Bower recently joined Atlas Oil, Jenson as vice president of supply and Bower as biofuels business development director. Both are working out of Atlas Oil's Houston office.

Jensen, with a background in refined products trading, is overseeing Atlas Oil's optimization of supply among the Gulf Coast, Chicago and Canadian markets. He has held positions as the vice president of SemFuel and vice president of petroleum products trading at Louis Dreyfus Energy Services. His career has also included work at Williams Energy Marketing & Trading and Conoco.

Bower joined Atlas' supply team to enhance the company's biofuel business. Most recently, he was the general manager/CEO for Mid-Missouri Energy and director of sales and trading for Global Ethanol/Midwest Grain Processors in Minneapolis.

Also, the company has brought on Eric Moyer as district retail manager for its Indiana Southern Region. Moyer, with a retail background, is overseeing the company's Indiana sales team and is charged with increasing volume from Atlas' South Bend office. Moyer previously held positions with Clark Foodservice as territory manger and Dr. Pepper/7-Up Bottling as an area sales manager.

Headquartered in Taylor, Mich., Atlas Oil is a major distributor of petroleum products and related services in Michigan, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Wisconsin and Ontario, Canada.
