SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- In a surprise announcement capping the New York Association of Convenience Stores’ (NYACS) 30th anniversary Trade Show and Convention, the group has inducted retiring NYACS vice president Amy Baldovin into the New York Convenience Store Hall of Fame.
The group honored Baldovin during the chairman’s banquet, along with previously announced inductees Peter Tamburro of Clifford Fuel Co. Inc., Marcy, N.Y.; Kevin Kenyon of Kenyon’s Variety, Lockport, N.Y.; and Josh Altman of Mountain/Service Distributors, South Fallsburg, N.Y.
The Hall of Fame honors individuals for their exceptional achievement, as well as service, in the Empire State’s convenience-store industry. Baldovin is the second NYACS staff person to be inducted. The first was the late Dick Warrender, co-founder and first president of NYACS.
Andrea Baker of Taylor’s Mini Marts, Cooperstown, N.Y., made the presentation to Baldovin, who has served as NYACS’ event planner, office manager, membership coordinator and bookkeeper for the past 15 years. Terry Pier of Swisher International, Jacksonville, Fla., presented her with a framed, autographed photo of baseball Hall of Famer Goose Gossage, whom she got a hit off of when he did a pitching demonstration at the 2008 NYACS Trade Show.
Based in Albany, N.Y., NYACS is a private, not-for-profit member organization that leads, safeguards and forges a favorable environment for New York State’s diverse community of neighborhood convenience stores. It provides its members with knowledge, a unified voice on legislative and regulatory issues and ways to share ideas, address common challenges and build relationships.
