Big Names, More Stores

Convenience chains keep cranking out new sites for incremental growth
OAK BROOK, Ill. -- Regional convenience store and gasoline chains have been busy lately with store openings. Along with recent openings already reported in CSP Daily News, Stewart's Shops, QuikTrip, Kwik Trip, Kum & Go, Gulf Oil and Weigel's all opened new locations in June and July.

Saratoga Springs, N.Y.-based Stewart's Shops' new store in Port Ewen, N.Y., is nearing completion and is on schedule to open Wednesday, July 8. The new shop is located next to the current shop. It will offer Stewart's signature items including milk, coffee, ice cream and food-to-go, [image-nocss] as well as ATM and EBT services. Installation of the gasoline pumps will be completed later this fall.

Meanwhile, six pay-at-the pump gasoline dispensers at Stewart's Shops new store in Lake George, N.Y., are now up and running, the company said. The shop also received its alcohol license recently and now offers a full line of beer and alcoholic beverages for sale.

Tulsa, Okla.-based QuikTrip opened its 70th store in its Phoenix division on July 2, spokesperson Mike Thornbrugh told CSP Daily News. It is a 5,000-square-foot building with single entry with 20-car service.

The chain also opened a store in McKinney Texas, and a relocation in Atlanta last week, Thornbrugh added.

He also told The Wichita Eagle that QuikTrip's 38th store was coming to that Kansas market. The new store, which was announced with a "coming soon" sign, is in the permitting process, so no construction timeline has been established. It will be around 4,600 square feet, the current prototype, and will have eight to 10 gasoline pumps, Thornbrugh said.

La Crosse, Wis.-based Kwik Trip Inc. was scheduled to open a new store in Germantown, Wis., on July 2, according to GermantownNow.com

Kwik Trip is building a new c-store, gas station and car wash in Howard, Wis., the company told The Green Bay Press Gazette. Construction has already kicked off and will be completed by October, Hans Zietlow, director of real estate, told the paper on Monday.

It's the fifth such store in the Northeastern Wisconsin area.

West Des Moines, Iowa-based Kum & Go LC opened a new location in Bentonville, Ark., in mid-June. It held a grand opening with food and drink specials on June 19 and 20.

Framingham, Mass.-based Gulf Oil LP announced grand openings in Fall River, Mass., on June 26; Winchester, N.Y., on June 23; Dunstable, Mass., on June 20; Lunenberg, Mass., on June 19; and Goffstown and Hudson, N.H., on June 18, according to the company's Facebook page.
