Brookshire Brothers Executive Announces Retirement

Burton served supermarket, c-store chain for 21 years
LUFKIN, Texas -- Edgar Burton, senior vice president of property management of Brookshire Brothers Ltd., has announced his retirement, which concludes a 21-year career with the Lufkin-based supermarket and convenience store chain.

Burton was hired as the director of distribution in January 1989. He was promoted to vice resident of distribution operations in October 1991. In June 2007, he was named senior vice president of property management.

Burton has been responsible for the company's physical assets including maintenance, construction, environmental compliance [image-nocss] and real estate. He also serves as a member of the executive and operations committees.

Prior to joining Brookshire Brothers, Burton owned Burton Eggs, a regional egg farm that operated for 28 years and conducted business in Texas and Louisiana.

"Our company was enriched by Edgar's dedication, knowledge and experience. His leadership and guidance have been felt in all areas of our company. The processes and procedures he implemented will benefit the company for many years to come. We thank him for his service and wish him only the best in retirement," said Jerry Johnson, president and chief operating officer for Brookshire Brothers.

Lufkin, Texas-based Brookshire Brothers operates 72 supermarkets in Texas and Louisiana under the Brookshire Brothers banner as well as 30 convenience stores under the name Polk Pick it Up.
