BW Bolsters Roster With Leading C-Store Chain Hires

Former Kum & Go, Delek, BP, Southwest, Family Express, 7-Eleven execs join company

BEVERLY, Mass. -- With another acquisition in its pipeline, BW Gas & Convenience Holdings LLC has hired Lisa Dodson, Kolby Jones, Greg Penman, Tony Sparks and Rebecca Teiken—veterans of several major convenience-store chains—to complete its management team.

Dodson will serve as pricebook manager and will be responsible for operating the company’s pricebook database and coordinating product setups and price changes in alignment with in-store promotions. Prior to joining BW, Dodson was a center store pricing and assortment manager for Dahl’s Foods. Before that, Dodson was a pricebook manager for Kum & Go LC, where she implemented the PDI-Enterprise system in more than 400 stores.

Jones and Penman will both serve as regional directors of acquisitions and will be responsible for acquiring additional gas stations with convenience stores in the Midwest region.

Prior to joining BW, Jones was director of business development for Ecosystem Services Exchange. Before that, Jones was a real-estate development representative for Kum & Go, where he was responsible for negotiation, acquisition and development of potential convenience-store locations in several states.

Penman comes to BW from Wal-Mart, where he was a real-estate manager. Before that, Penman was a real-estate project manager for Delek US, where he sourced and negotiated acquisitions for the firm’s 400-store portfolio. Penman began his career identifying and executing real-estate development strategies for BP.

Sparks will serve as vice president of merchandising and will be responsible for managing all merchandising department activities, including pricing, product mix, placement and promotional activity for all categories and locations. Prior to joining BW, Sparks was the vice president of marketing for Southwest Convenience Stores, where he led the 300-store chain to record sales and gross profit dollars in 2015 and led all marketing, merchandising and advertising initiatives. Before that, Sparks was director of marketing for Family Express, and prior to that, he was a national category manager for 7-Eleven.

Teiken will serve as senior IT manager and will be responsible for leading all connectivity and technology initiatives. Previously, Teiken was a project manager for fuel rewards company Drop Tank, where she was responsible for hardware deployment to 4,000 retail sites. Before that, Teiken was an IT program manager for BP, where she was responsible for developing a training program for 4,000 employees across 1,700 U.S. sites.

Dodson, Jones, Sparks and Teiken will be based out of BW’s Des Moines, Iowa, regional headquarters. Penman will be based out of BW’s Bentonville, Ark., office.

Prior to joining BW, Trout was with The Pantry and 7-Eleven. In February, BW hired Douglas Wald as a regional manager and Dennis Darveau as vice president of construction and maintenance. Wald was previously with The Pantry, and Darveau was with Gulf Oil LP.

Private-equity investment firm Brookwood Financial Partners LLC formed BW in 2015. In December 2015, it acquired a portfolio of 10 Country Store c-stores in western Iowa; in March 2016, it acquired 24 c-stores in Iowa and one in Nebraska from Kum & Go.

Brookwood specializes in acquiring and managing commercial real estate and related businesses for a group of institutional investors, family offices and high-net-worth individuals. Since its founding in 1993, Brookwood has raised more than $810 million of equity to acquire a portfolio of 199 commercial real-estate and convenience-store properties with a value in excess of $2.2 billion.
