C-Store Supplier Vet Spear Passes Away

Death comes just two weeks after retirement announcement

GOLDSBORO, N.C. -- Wesley Spear, operations manager for Jeffreys Cabinet Co. in Goldsboro, N.C., has passed away, just two weeks after he announced his retirement effective May 31, 2006. Jeffreys is a designer and supplier of equipment for convenience stores, delis, dairies and restaurants for the eastern United States.

Wesley had been involved in the convenience store industry since 1963. He had been with Jeffreys Cabinet for more than 31 years, after 10 years with the Universal Nolin Co., where his career in the industry began.

It was a sad day for the Jeffreys' family companies and their employees to lose such a dedicated employee and friend to retirement, but it is much worse to lose Wesley to death, said Dennis Weaver, vice president of sales. Wesley has been the staple that has kept Jeffreys together through many management changes. He has always been the calm during every storm.

The Jeffreys team had planned a nice send off into retirement on June 6, 2006, but due to Wesley's changed condition, the event was cancelled, Weaver said. Over 25 Manufacturers from around the country had planned to attend Wesley's retirement party, which was an absolute tribute to his impeccable reputation in the c-store industry. It was truly touching to see the reps that traveled from as far away as California, Texas and other western states to show their respect for Wesley and to say their goodbyes.
