Casey's Opens First Store in Michigan

Distribution center opens door for more locations to the East

ANKENY, Iowa -- Retailer Casey’s General Stores opened its first location in Michigan on April 13, marking the 16th state of operation for convenience-store chain, with plans for additional locations in the near future.

The Watervliet, Mich., location will host a two-day grand opening event on April 20 and 21 to celebrate Casey’s inaugural store in Michigan. A ribbon cutting will be held April 20 at 10 a.m.

“We are very excited about opening our first store in Michigan," said President and CEO Terry Handley. "I believe Watervliet is an ideal community for us.”

The 4,500-square-foot store is open 24 hours a day and has a six-pump forecourt. Inside the store, Casey’s offers its made-from-scratch pizza, fresh sub-sandwich station, bakery items, full-service coffee station and more. Customers can use Casey’s app and website for online ordering, coupons, discounts, games and more, the company said.

Ankeny, Iowa-based Casey’s General Stores operates more than 2,000 convenience stores in the Midwest.

In 2017, Handley said Casey’s would step up its store-count growth initiatives, using its new distribution center in Terre Haute, Ind., as a launchpad for more stores to the East. For its fiscal 2018, Casey’s General Stores said it would build or acquire 80 to 120 stores, replace 30 existing locations and complete 75 major remodels.

The chain ranked No. 4 in a year-end update of CSP’s2017 Top 202 list of the largest c-store chains in the United States.
