Casey's Picks Up Two More Minnesota Locations

Regional retailer acquires Hayfield's two c-stores

HAYFIELD, Minn. -- Casey's General Stores Inc. has acquired two stores in Hayfield, Minn., according to a report by the Post Bulletin. The Ankeny, Iowa-based regional retailer purchased the town's only two gas station/convenience stores, Four Corners and Hayfield Motor Mart.

Owners Justin Holtan, Steve Demmer and Neal Anderson said it was a good time to sell their locally owned stores to Casey's. "We have been becoming concerned, because there are very few independent c-stores left," Holtan told the newspaper. "They made us a fair offer. The timing was right."

Casey's was not expected to make any dramatic changes right away, said the report. Early plans are to keep both stores open, including the A&W Root Beer eatery in Four Corners, the former owners told the paper.

"It is a good opportunity for our employees with more opportunity for advancement and better benefits. And with Casey's buying power, it will be better for the community," Holtan added.

There are also no plans for any major changes to staffing at this point, said the report. The store stores employ about 30 people.

Demmer and Anderson built Four Corners in 2000. They purchased the Motor Mart in 2007 and brought Holtan in as a partner.

Casey's has approximately 1,650 convenience stores in 11 Midwestern and Great Plains states including Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Wisconsin and Arkansas. Most Casey's stores operate in towns with populations of less than 5,000. Casey's stores supply self-service gasoline, made-from-scratch pizza and donuts, sandwiches, hot and cold beverages, grocery items and more.
