Crystal Flash Turns to a Marsh

Hires former supermarket exec to help revamp c-stores

INDIANAPOLIS -- David A. Marsh, former president of Marsh Supermarkets Inc., became president of the Fehsenfeld family's Crystal Flash Petroleum late last year, according to a report by The Indianapolis Star.

We need to grow, and we think he has the expertise we needed to do that, Debbie Baker, vice president of administration for Crystal Flash, told the newspaper.

Last summer, after Marsh and three other family members were fired as shareholders pressured Marsh Supermarkets to sell, Crystal Flash asked him how to spruce up its 23 [image-nocss] convenience stores, said the report.

After making his assessment, Marsh approached the Fehsenfeld family about joining the company. Two former Marsh co-workers followed him, the report added.

Now there are plans to revamp Crystal Flash stores and build more of them, Baker said. He understands our family culture, coming from the Marsh family, she told the paper.

Boca Raton, Fla.-based Sun Capital Partners closed on its $325 million acquisition of regional grocery/convenience chain Marsh Supermarkets, which also operates about 150 Village Pantry c-stores, in late September.
