Delta Sonic to Build New Superstore

Will feature car wash, detailing, fuel, oil change, c-store, deli

SALINA, N.Y. -- Delta Sonic is building its second facility in Central New York as its purchase of the three-acre former site of a Kia dealership and a Quick Fill gas station in Salina, N.Y., will be complete on September 1, said the Central New York Business Journal.

Delta Sonic will demolish the existing structure this fall, and construction of the new building will begin in the spring, Michael Green, vice president of development and construction for the car-wash chain, told the newspaper.

The firm hopes to open for business [image-nocss] by August 2006, said Green. Delta Sonic will hire between 100 and 150 mostly part-time employees to work at the branch, he added.

Buffalo, N.Y.-based Delta Sonic's in-house construction firm will rebuild the site, creating a 20,000-sq.-ft. car-service superstore, said the report. Although Green would not specify the cost of the land and construction, he said it would total several million dollars.

Typically, Delta Sonic car washes feature viewer bays where customers can watch their car transported across a conveyer belt through an assembly line of employees who wash and clean the vehicle's exterior and interior.

In addition to a touch-free car wash and vehicle-interior cleaning service, the new facility will feature a detail shop, an oil-change station, a Kiss Mart convenience store with adjacent Delta Deli, and a self-serve gasoline station, the report said.

Most of Delta Sonic's 28 units, located throughout upstate New York, Chicago, and Erie, Pa., offer similar amenities, Green said.

Delta Sonic selected the site by modeling the expansion after the success of the firm's first Central New York location in DeWitt, N.Y., Green told the paper. Delta Sonic sought a multiple-acre site located in a high-traffic commercial district in the greater Syracuse area, he said. Within the next three to five years, Delta Sonic hopes to have a total of four or five facilities in Central New York, he said.

Delta Sonic plans to attract customers to its gas station by offering its guaranteed gasoline promotion, in which the firm guarantees the lowest gasoline price within a two-mile radius, Green said. It also offers reduced gasoline prices for car-wash patrons, according to the report.
