CSP again honored for Outlook Survey, retailer profile, in-depth reporting

OAK BROOK, Ill. --The editors of CSP are award finalists for the second year in a row for in-depth feature writing, a retailer profile and original research.

CSP's exclusive Outlook Survey is again a national award finalist in the category of original research in ASBPE's Azbee Awards. The story, written by CSP senior editor/special projects coordinator Samantha Oller, examined the "cautious optimism" of convenience retailers, how they're evolving their businesses and the top challenges they face over the next year. The Outlook Survey last year was honored by ASBPE with a national bronze award for original research.

Oller also was nominated for a regional award for in-depth feature writing for her story "The End of E85?" As the cover story of CSP's February 2012 issue, the piece examined market and industry implications of the end of a tax credit for E85.

Angel Abcede, senior editor/content coordinator, is a regional finalist in the category of individual profile for his December 2012 story on Kwik Trip's Don Zietlow, CSP's 2012 Retail Leader of the Year.

"CSP strives to be the best in everything we do," said CSP Business Media CEO Mike Wood. "Quality content is a cornerstone of our business. The Jesse H. Neal Awards [in which CSP took home a top prize earlier this year] and now the ASBPE nominations are a validation of our efforts."

Abcede has been honored for his executive profiles in the past. Last year he took home a regional gold award for his December 2011 profile of 7-Eleven CEO Joe DePinto, CSP's 2011 Retail Leader of the Year. In 2010 he won a gold award for his December 2009 profile of RaceTrac's Carl Bolch Jr., also named CSP's Retail Leader of the Year.

Oller was the co-author of CSP's June 2011 in-depth examination of food deserts, for which she was awarded a regional gold award last year. She had been honored previously for CSP's Competitive Watch series and for a July 2008 profile on Murphy Oil.

Vice president and group editor Mitch Morrison said of the nominations, "Michael Jordan used to say he never grew tired winning the NBA's MVP award, as long as his Chicago Bulls were winning championships. We feel the same way. We love that our serious journalism and solutions-based data reports continue to win regional and national awards. But more rewarding is that we continue to hear from our retailers and suppliers that CSP is their go-to for print, digital and B2B events."

CSP has won 46 awards over the past 13 years, more than all other publications that serve the industry combined.

The two regional awards will be presented July 25 at the ASBPE Midwest-South Azbee Awards ceremony and the national July 26 at the Azbee Awards of Excellence banquet.
