EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- The new Army & Air Force Exchange Express gas and service station at Edwards Air Force Base in California opened on July 31.
Grand opening festivities will begin next week, at which time the Express will have special promotions, giveaways and more.
The station has approximately 2,700 square feet of sales area, doubling the current station, and it has 10 pumps to help facilitate a quick in and out for customers.
The new Exchange Express facility features the Shoppette convenience store, Class VI liquor store and Snack Avenue foodservice.
The Exchange Express has also signed on with Firestone, which has three service bays, bringing a private car-care business to the base. Firestone Complete Auto Care will have its grand opening Aug. 5 and will offer specials through Aug. 11 via coupons distributed around the base.
Existing car-care and Shoppette facilities are no longer open for business.
The Edwards AFB Exchange and base leadership had the groundbreaking ceremony Sept. 4, 2012, for the new station. This project started almost three years ago after officials recognized the need to upgrade existing facilities. The current gas station had been around for more than 20 years.
The new station will keep in compliance with California environmental law.
