These three companies received 2015 Catalyst Awards during the 2015 Outlook Leadership conference—presented by CSP magazine—in Scottsdale, Ariz.

The catalyst awards showcase companies that are “making differences in their communities while also projecting a positive image for the convenience channel,” said Mitch Morrison, vice president and group editor for CSP and Convenience Store Products magazines.

Cumberland Farms

Gwen Forman, senior vice president of marketing, accepted the Employee Engagement Award for Cumberland Farms, Framingham, Mass.

Cumberland Farms offers every employee health insurance and 401K, which has enhanced the pool of job candidates, reduced turnover and raised the overall morale at this family-run chain.

“We truly, truly believe that the team members in our store make our business special,” Ari Haseotes, Cumberland Farms president and CEO, said.

NOCO

Executive vice president Michael F. Newman accepted the Sustainability Award for NOCO Energy Corp., Tonawanda, N.Y.

When NOCO began designing its newest NOCO Express convenience store, the company embraced sustainability. The focus on environmental design not only created a more energy-efficient store but it also created a better experience for its customers.

“The future of NOCO is going to be constant evolution,” Newman said. “We always are looking to our customers to tell us what they expect.”

QuikTrip

Troy Devos, director of real estate, accepted the Community Support Award for QuikTrip, Tulsa, Okla.

After demonstrations in Ferguson, Mo., destroyed many businesses, including a QuikTrip convenience store, the company donated the site to the Urban League to help residents get training for jobs. QuikTrip also provided support to all employees from that store and promised them employment within the company.

“QuikTrip really didn’t do anything any different than we would have for any situation. It didn’t matter if it were a tornado or a flood; we would have reacted the same way,” Mike Thornbrugh, manager of public and government affairs, said.

GreenPrint LLC, Atlanta, sponsored the Catalyst Awards presentation.
