Cumberland Farms, Gulf moving to single office as part of corporate consolidation
FRAMINGHAM, Mass. -- Cumberland Farms, the Canton, Mass.-based convenience store chain, and Gulf Oil LP, the Newton, Mass.-based wholesaler of refined petroleum products, are combining corporate finance, legal and human resources operations at a single location in Framingham, Mass., said DTZ FHO Partners, a commercial real estate broker specializing in the Greater Boston office market. Approximately 400 employees will relocate to the new office in May 2009.

"We were looking for a property that would fit our open working environment and culture, and allow us to have a viable, [image-nocss] central location for all of our Cumberland Farm and Gulf Oil employees," said Joseph Petrowski, CEO of Cumberland Farms, which has been the parent company of Gulf Oil since 1986. "Our workforce has been key to our growth, and it was important to remain in a central location to ensure satisfaction, while allowing us an advantage in recruiting and retaining employees."

The new combined headquarters will be located in a three-story building located at the Route 9/Interstate 90 Interchange off Exit 12 of the Massachusetts Turnpike. The new location is part of the 9/90 Corporate Center Park, in a suburban setting. The Park features a Marriott Residence Inn, foodservice, onsite management and other amenities. Additional corporations in the Park include Staples, Computer Associates, NMS Communications, Capital One and Genzyme.

National Development of Newton is the landlord of the space at 100 Crossing Boulevard in Framingham where Cumberland Farms and Gulf Oil are moving. DTZ FHO Partners represented both the tenants and National Development in the transaction.

As reported in CSP Daily News, the companies said in August that they would be consolidating and streamlining the management teams of both firms to increase operational efficiency. The consolidation took effect October 1.

Petrowski became Group CEO of Cumberland Farms-Gulf Oil. He reports to a nine-person board made up of five independent members and four Haseotes family members with Lily H. Bentas, who is currently CEO of Cumberland Farms, as chairperson. Ari Haseotes, currently vice president of marketing for Cumberland Farms, became president of Cumberland Farms Retail. Ron Sabia, chief operating officer at Gulf Oil, became president of Gulf Oil.
