GACS Reaches Out Via E-Mail

Debuts new membership campaign for owners/operators of single stores
DALLAS, Ga. -- The Georgia Association of Convenience Stores (GACS) recently unveiled a new membership program targeting single-store owner/operators who have email. Entitled "GACS E-Membership," the program is designed to help single-store owners receive important information electronically at a reduced price point.

"We have built this outreach around the idea that 'If You Have Email, We Have the Answers,' in order to help get the word out," said Neal Anderson of Clyde's Market, Glennville, Ga., GACS membership chairman. As we examined our membership mix, it was obvious [image-nocss] that the fastest growing segment in our state were new single-store owners. It was also obvious that we weren't very successful in reaching them initially."

Rob Patterson of Mini-Foods, Macon, Ga., GACS chairman, also noted, "We needed to make a more concentrated effort to get important information to smaller operators. Many violations, such a price gouging, impact not just the individual operator, but the entire industry. We've got to get everyone in the information loop. The expansion of the store email database now makes this much closer to reality."

According to GACS president Jim Tudor, the program was launched at the recently concluded Southern Convenience Store & Petroleum show and that more than 5,000 brochures have been mailed throughout the state. In addition, the association's magazine, GACS Today, will be modified to include additional information designed for this new audience. Tudor concluded, "We have always stressed that 'GACS Membership Matters.' There's a large number of potential members in our state who we want to reach with this message. It's good for both the operator and our industry."
