Gas Station Mystery

Three Lapeer, Mich., locations close doors without explanation
LAPEER, Mich. -- Three BP gas stations in Lapeer, Mich., have closed their doors, according to a report by The County Press. City residents found the stations locked last Thursday and paper bags on the pump handles with no more explanation for the sudden closing than handwritten closed signs on the doors.

City tax officials and state environmental regulation authorities told the newspaper that they did not close the stations. Paul Boucher, Lapeer's director of Financial Services, said all three stations were current on their taxes. Bob McCann, a spokesperson for [image-nocss] the state Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) said he knew of no regulatory actions being taken against any of the three stations.

McCann did say, however, that there have been sporadic cases across the state of fuel companies refusing to deliver fuel to stations for nonpayment. BP did not respond to an inquiry from the Press. Butch Yerian, the sales manager CMS Oil, the city's Marathon dealer and part of the family-owned company that sold the three stations to HB Management in 2003, told the paper that he knew nothing about the closings.

He suggested "they might open back up in a couple days."

A check of the state Department of Labor & Economic Growth's (DLEG) website listed Najy Jaboro of Grosse Pointe, Mich., as the resident agent for HB Management 3IIc, since 2008 the owner of the three stations. Jaboro signed the limited liability company's annual statement as a member, said the report. A certificate of amendment to the articles of organization in the same DLEG file lists the company's previous name a Jaboro Boys LLC.
