Separately, Gary Hoffman, manager of a VERC Enterprises convenience store in Danvers, Mass., has earned the second place Silver Award for Overall Store Manager from the New England Convenience Store Association (NESCA).

Judges described the nine-year employee of the VERC Enterprises as "invested in his customers; his professional, hard-working and even- tempered manner has meant very little staff turnover, assuring many long-term employees." The judges further lauded the VERC Danvers location for being "extremely organized, clean and well presented."

Hoffman was nominated for the award by VERC district managers, following which NESCA judges visited the VERC Danvers location to observe the facility in general and its manager in particular.

"The NESCA award for Overall Manager elicits strong competition among convenience stores," said Leo Vercollone, CEO of Duxbury, Mass.-based VERC Enterprises. "We are proud, but certainly not surprised, that Gary Hoffman has taken home this prestigious award of excellence."

VERC Enterprises operates 20 locations throughout eastern Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire.
