"They have potential if they're run right," Sandhu, who, along with other family members, opened a Hoosier Pete in another former Village Pantry locations few months ago, told the newspaper.
Sandhu currently owns and operates several Hoosier Pete stores in Indiana.
He [image-nocss] said customer response "has been good" at the former Village Pantry stores. Business at the locations is "picking up slowly but surely," he added.
Sandhu's family has a background in the c-store business in the state of New York, according to the report.
He said the family's business plan is simple. "We're trying to promote cleanliness and good customer service," he told the paper. "We're doing that by having good, clean employees, by having them be nice to customers and having all the products customers need."
As previously reported in CSP Daily News, Marsh Supermarkets, purchased in 2006 by Florida-based Sun Capital Partners Inc., spun off its Village Pantry c-store division in 2007. After the Sun Capital purchase, the company closed a handful of underperforming Marsh Supermarket and Village Pantry locations in Indiana.
