BP looking for franchisees for Indianapolis locations for ampm rebranding

INDIANAPOLIS -- BP is offering long-term franchising opportunities for 28 of its Indianapolis-area BP locations. The company will convert and reimage 20 of its BP Connect locations to ampm franchise operations; buyers of the remaining eight sites, which include six new construction sites, will be expected to complete the convenience store buildout or conversion and rebranding to ampm after closing.

The ampm convenience store was ranked 51st in Entrepreneur magazine's Franchise 500 report; ampm was also ranked No. 34 in Entrepreneur's list of America's Top Global Franchises. Companies are judged based on criteria including financial strength and stability, growth rate, system size and number of years in business; ampm is the only convenience store owned by an integrated oil and gas company to make the list.

The ampm brand was founded in 1978 in Southern California by ARCO, which BP acquired in 2000; ampm is found in the western United States in California, Nevada, Arizona, Washington and Oregon, with franchisees owning or operating about 1,000 ampm-branded convenience retail stores.

BP is selling ampm franchises in the eastern United States, in the Chicago, Atlanta, Indianapolis and Pittsburgh marketing areas. While similar, the eastern and western ampm franchise offers are distinct from one another and subject to separate franchise documentation.

BP is already a well-known franchisor on the West Coast said Ben Amante, BP's vice president of U.S. franchising. As we launch the ampm franchise in the eastern U.S., we are applying our breath of experience from our established ampm West Coast operations, which includes nearly 1,000 locations west of the Rockies and approximately 2,000 internationally. The ampm concept will bring new food choices and expanded product selection.

Chicago-based NRC Realty Advisors LLC is managing the sale process for BP.

The first of several upcoming Discovery Day presentations for potential buyers will be held at the Columbia Club in Indianapolis on Wednesday, July 18. Presentations will be hosted by BP leaders who will cover many aspects of the ampm franchise offering, including operations and marketing. BP will also review its fuel offer. Interested parties are requested to register for a Discovery Day session by calling NRC at (800)747-3342.
