Kum & Go Rewards Manager

Store, chain also benefit from jackpot, Jackass

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa -- Earlier this month, West Des Moines, Iowa-based Kum & Go LC announced that its store in Fort Dodge, Iowa, was the location where store manager Pat Fellers was one of 12 Kum & Go managers who won a new car last week as part of a companywide internal sales promotion.

Fellers won a 2006 Chevy HHR after being randomly selected during a live drawing held at a managers' awards luncheon. She earned two entries into the drawing and her name was selected out of a possible 779 entries.

Three days earlier, [image-nocss] Kum & Go announced that the sole winner of the $200.8 million Powerball jackpotthe largest in the statepurchased the ticket at Feller's store. Kum & Go was awarded $10,000 for selling the winning ticket, and the company donated that money to Fort Dodge and St. Edmund's high schools in the form of 10 $1,000 scholarships for this year's senior classes.

Kum & Go also said that it is seeing an increase in online merchandise sales due to a bit of unplanned exposure from a top revenue-grossing Hollywood picture.

Jackass Number Two, the sequel to the 2002 movie Jackass, spawned from the hit MTV show, opened nationwide in late September. The movie grossed $11.4 million its opening night and outpaced all movies over its first weekend of release, bringing in $28.1 million.

In one segment of the movie, actor Johnny Knoxville is wearing a black Kum & Go t-shirt. This small amount of exposure has had a significant impact on Kum & Go's online merchandise sales, the company said. Since the movie premiered, hundreds of shirts and ball caps have been purchased on the website, with the most popular item being the black Kum & Go t-shirt.

Kum & Go's vendors have been working hard to meet both in-store and on-line demand. Online purchases have been made from around the country with the most orders coming from California, Minnesota, Illinois and Florida. The T-shirts retail for $9.99, and currently there are 29 active Kum & Go T-shirt auctions on eBay with bids as high as $23.99 per shirt.

Merchandise is also available in the majority of the 445 Kum & Go stores in its 13 states of operation and on the company's website at www.kumandgo.com.

West Des Moines, Iowa-based Kum & Go has 445 convenience stores in 13 states (Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Colorado, Arkansas, Wyoming and Wisconsin).
