MACS Opening New Business Support Center in Richmond

Site consolidates four former company headquarters
RICHMOND, Va. -- Mid-Atlantic Convenience Stores (MACS), one of the largest consortiums of ExxonMobil retailers in the United States, has occupied its new Business Support Center in Richmond, Va. The 22,000 square-foot facility consolidates four former headquarters locations into a single operations hub for the company.

It features modern stone-and-glass architecture accented by vintage gasoline pumps, a reflection of the company's strong heritage in the fuel business. In addition, the offices include training facilities, a full food-and-beverage zone, a test kitchen for [image-nocss] development of new food concepts, a technology lab for pre-testing field-service systems, an exercise room and an area for staff relaxation and comfort.

"We deliberately have brought together our diverse operations into a single Business Support Center to gain synergies and efficiencies between our people and systems," said president and CEO Jim Summers. "By naming this location the 'Business Support Center,' we have reinforced our key priority: to support our people in the 'field.' This is the focus of our energies every day."

He added, "Our new Business Support Center includes the best-in-class features for running our business and accommodating our future growth plans. Since we have located here, the energy of our team is truly palpable."

The official grand opening of the new Business Support Center is scheduled for late March 2011, Summers said.

Richmond-based MACS is a leading convenience store operator in the Mid-Atlantic region and one of the largest ExxonMobil-branded wholesalers in the United States. Initially formed in mid-2010, MACS was created by the leading consumer-focused private equity firm in North America, Catterton Partners, to acquire c-stores in the highly fragmented convenience industry. In June 2010, MACS acquired a majority interest in Uppy's Convenience Stores Inc., and 170 convenience stores/fuel stations from ExxonMobil. Today, MACS comprises approximately 300 company-owned and dealer retail locations throughout Maryland and Virginia, in addition to its wholesale fuel distribution network.
