MAPCO Adds to the Bench

Newly created position beefs up retailer's leadership roster
BRENTWOOD, Tenn. -- MAPCO Express Inc., a wholly owned direct subsidiary of Delek US Holdings Inc., entered into an employment agreement with Igal Zamir, 43, to be become MAPCO's president, effective June 10, 2009, CSP Daily News has learned. Noel Ryan, spokesperson for Delek US, said, "Zamir is the president of MAPCO Express, a newly created position. Zamir reports to Uzi Yemin." Yemin is the CEO and president of Delek US Holdings Inc., which owns Mapco Express, Delek Refining and Delek Marketing & Supply.

Zamir has about 15 years in the retail and consumer [image-nocss] goods business. From 2006 until 2009, he served as CEO of Metrolight Ltd., a privately held Israeli corporation and global provider of proprietary energy saving solutions in high-intensity discharge lighting systems with U.S. offices in Nashville, Tenn. From 2004 until 2006, Zamir worked as an independent venture partner in Israel. From 1998 until 2004, he served as CEO of Rostam Ltd., a privately held Israeli corporation and global provider of private-label feminine hygiene products with U.S. offices in Lincoln, R.I.

"He is well positioned to run [MAPCO]," said Ryan, who would not elaborate on why the new position has been created other than to say "it adds to the bench" of leadership.

During a conference call in March, Yemin said, "Entering 2009, our executive team has established a number of strategic directives designed to improve the efficiency, competitive positioning and profitability of our core assets. In our retail segment, the brand reimaging and private-label initiatives remain key areas of focus as we look ahead to the remainder of the year."

Meanwhile, as reported in CSP Daily News in early April, Delek US announced that Edward Morgan, vice president and chief financial officer, submitted his resignation. He remained with the company through May 11 to facilitate an orderly transition while the company searched for his permanent replacement.

Brentwood, Tenn.-based Delek US is a diversified energy business focused on petroleum refining, marketing and supply of refined products and retail marketing of fuel and merchandise. The refining segment operates a high-conversion, independent refinery, with a capacity of 60,000 barrels per day, in Tyler, Texas. The marketing and supply segment markets refined products through its terminals in Abilene and San Angelo, Texas, as well as other third-party terminals. The retail segment markets gasoline, diesel and other refined petroleum products and convenience merchandise through a network of company-operated retail fuel and convenience stores, operated under the MAPCO Express, MAPCO Mart, East Coast, Discount Food Mart, Fast Food & Fuel and Favorite Markets brand names.
