NORWICH, N.Y. -- Angelo J. Mirabito, eldest member of the Mirabito Fuel Group, Sidney, N.Y., died last Friday at the age of 90, said the Press & Sun-Bulletin.
Mirabito began working with his father, keeping books for his Norwich, N.Y., coal business when he was 9. He served as a postal clerk throughout Europe during World War II. After he left the military, he worked for the U.S. Postal Service until he retired in 1958.
That is when he and his three brothers started Chenango Asphalt Products, which Mirabito managed, said the [image-nocss] report. Mirabito and his brothers assumed ownership of the Mirabito Fuel Group in 1952. The business was started in 1927 by his father. The firm, which began as a coal company, today runs more than 50 Quickway convenience stores and provides fuel to customers in New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Connecticut and Massachusetts.
Mirabito is survived by his wife of 65 years, Josephine; their children, Michael and Angela; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
