A Natural Downstream Move

With addition of Arkansas, Gulf flag now flies above stations in 28 states

CONWAY, Ark. -- Gulf Oil LP announced a new branded partnership agreement with Satterfield Oil Co. of Central Arkansas, returning the iconic motor fuel brand to the Natural State.

Conway, Ark.-based Satterfield Oil has rebranded its first four gas stations to Gulf Oil, three in Conway and one in Greenbrier. The company expects to brand up to three more stations in the area this year.

"Gulf is a strong brand in this area," Satterfield said. "Our customers recognize its special legacy--it is highly recognizable and stands for quality. Gulf Oil has a certain nostalgia that makes consumers feel comfortable."

Gulf Oil senior vice president and chief sales and marketing officer Rick Dery said, "The name 'Arkansas' comes from a Sioux word acansa, which means 'downstream place' … and is an important milestone for Gulf as we continue our national downstream expansion. We remain steadfastly committed to supporting the brand and our partners as we re-introduce the brand to the motoring public in markets where it has been absent for years."

The Gulf flag now flies above branded stations in 28 states, plus Puerto Rico, according to Dery, with much more expansion to come.

"We are branding stations as far west as Minnesota and Texas and along the East Coast in every state from Maine to Florida," Dery told CSP Daily News. "To say that Gulf is merely in a 'growth mode' would be an understatement. We have tripled our field presence in expansion markets and have joined virtually every regional petroleum trade organization available to us in these new markets."

And as reported yesterday in a Morgan Keegan/CSP Daily News Flash, further heralding the brand's expansion into Arkansas, Gulf Oil CEO Joseph Petrowski will speak at the Arkansas Oil Marketers Association convention in Hot Springs on March 29-30.

In addition to the Arkansas event, Gulf Oil executives are also scheduled to exhibit in the SE Petroleum & Food Show in South Carolina, the PACE Show in Missouri, MPACT in Indiana, Food & Fuel in Georgia, The Sunshine Expo in Florida, The Texas Food & Fuel Expo in Dallas, Atlantic Region Energy Expo (AREE) in New Jersey and Michigan Petroleum Association (MPA) show in Michigan.

Framingham, Mass.-based Gulf Oil is a national, branded supplier of motor fuels throughout the United States and its territories. It distributes motor fuels through a network of more than 2,500 branded gasoline retail centers, 12 proprietary oil terminals and more than 130 other supply points. Gulf Oil supplies gasoline, heating oil, diesel fuel, jet fuel and kerosene through its terminal network.
