New Sheetz Store Rises From Ashes

Also opens St. Marys location

ALTOONA, Pa. -- Sheetz Inc. is celebrating the rebuilding of one of its most successful locations as it opened a new and improved 4,000-sq.-ft. store yesterday in its headquarters town of Altoona, Pa.

The convenience retailer suffered a devastating blow when fire destroyed the original store on April 13, 2006.

The store is one of 13 in Blair County. While the store opened to the public Thursday, employees will host a community grand opening celebration and ribbon-cutting ceremony today. As part of the festivities, the company [image-nocss] will present donations to the Altoona Fire Department, the American Red Cross and the Salvation Army as a way of giving thanks to those organizations who helped on-scene during the fire.

Watching the old store go up in flames last spring was really a sad time, because it was like we'd lost an old friend, said Stan Sheetz, president and CEO of the chain. We had a lot of customers who loved to go to that store and employees who counted on having a place to work. It's been greatly missed for the last year. We are happy to be back. We are happy to serve those customers again and we are thrilled that this community has supported us over the years.

Sheetz also has opened a long-anticipated location in St. Marys, Pa, a 4,700-sq.-ft. store. The newest addition to the 337-store chain is the first in the city of St. Marys.

While the store opened to the public Thursday, employees will host a community grand opening celebration and ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday afternoon, July 12. As part of the July 12 festivities, the company will make several donations to the American Red Cross, St. Marys Catholic Elementary School and the St. Marys Christmas Tree Lighting Fund.

At both new stores, Sheetz is offering its complete Made-To-Order and Sheetz Bros. Coffeez menus.

The company is a family-owned and operated c-store chain with more than $3.8 billion in revenue for 2006 and more than 11,000 employees. It operates c-stores in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Maryland, Virginia, Ohio and North Carolina. All Sheetz c-stores are open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
