Station, c-store, truckstop openings, closings, rebrandings around the nation
OAK BROOK, Ill. -- "Open & Shut" is CSP Daily News' occasional roundup of some of the many new-store openings, reopenings, groundbreakings, raze and rebuilds, rebrandings, closures and sales taking place around the country by chains small, medium and large that have not otherwise been reported.
Especially on the independent operator level, this recurring feature provides a snapshot of the frequently changing retail marketplace that includes such outlets as convenience stores, gas stations, truckstops, travel centers and related locations.
The Valero signs and dispensers at three stations in Manteca came went down in early January and were replaced by Chevron signs, reported The Manteca Bulletin. The franchises for all three stations are owned by the family of Hari Kamboj; they also have a fourth location that is not rebranding because the station across the street is already a Chevron.
7-Eleven opened a new stores in Bellflower on December 28, Montclair and North Hollywood on January 15 and Sylmar on January 21,7ElevenSoCal said on Twitter.
The former Mount Werner Sinclair c-store now is branded Loaf 'N Jug, part of The Kroger Co., said Steamboat Today. Dillon Real Estate Co., Pueblo, bought a pair of commercial buildings comprising 5,820 square feet from Sinclair Oil Corp. for $3.2 million in mid-December.
A Shell station and c-store will open up at the former site of the Loaf 'N Jug in Fort Morgan in February with free wireless service, said The Fort Morgan Times. Chris Savard, owner of the c-store, said food will be the focus of the store, which will revive the Chester Fried Chicken franchise.
A 20-year-old RaceTrac station closed in late December in North Fort Myers because it did not upgrade its storage tanks in time for a state-mandated deadline, reported The News-Press.
Sands Petroleum Development opened a Valero station with a Dunkin Donuts in North Fort Myers in late December, said The News-Press. The company has four other Valero-brand stations in the works for Lee County: North Fort Myers, San Carlos Park; Cape Coral and south Fort Myers.
A Shell gas station and 5,700-sq.-ft. c-store is expected to open by the end of February in Tampa, reported The South Shore News & Tribune. Owner George Bassil said the site will feature a Dunkin' Donuts and a carwash.
Atlanta-basedRaceTrac Inc. opened a new location in Woodstock in mid-December, the company said on Twitter.
Stinker Stations bought a Chevron location in its home town of Boise on January 14, the company said on Twitter. This site will be rebranded to a Sinclair Stinker.
