Price Cutter Cuts Deal

Buying nine supermarkets, three c-stores in Tulsa area

TULSA, Okla. -- RPCS Inc., which owns Price Cutter stores in the Springfield, Mo., area, announced plans for an agreement with Albertsons LLC to acquire 12 Albertsons properties, including nine supermarkets and three convenience stores, in and around the Tulsa, Okla., market, said The News-Leader.

RPCS will take possession of the first site July 23; name change and rebranding will follow, the company told the newspaper.

Currently, RPCS operates about 35 grocery stores in Missouri under the Price Cutter, Price Cutter Plus, Ramey [image-nocss] and Smitty's banners. The company also operates four Price Cutter Express c-stores with gas stations, and a single Save-A-Lot store in Arkansas. RPCS also sells groceries online at PriceCutterOnline.com and operates about 20 pharmacies.

In 2002 the regional grocery chain acquired eight locations from grocery giant Albertsons and reopened them as Price Cutter Plus stores, which are larger than other Price Cutter supermarkets and include Starbucks coffee shops and other amenities inside. The regional grocery chain has been 100% owned by its employees since 2005.

Associated Wholesale Grocers Inc. is the company's primary supplier.
