Sheetz gains ground in Top Five Best Places to Work ranking

ALTOONA, Pa. -- Sheetz Inc. has made the jump to No. 5 on the list of Best Large Employers in Ohio. This honor was given to Sheetz and a handful of other top companies at the Ohio Chamber of Commerce annual meeting in Columbus.

Ohio Lieutenant Governor Lee Fisher presented Sheetz with this award for its efforts to provide an outstanding workplace while keeping employees satisfied. Notably, programs like the quarterly employee bonus and employee stock purchase options helped get Sheetz this recognition.

Our continued success in [image-nocss] Ohio is important to us here at Sheetz and we are truly honored to be recognized in this way, said Stan Sheetz, president and CEO of the Altoona, Pa.-based company. The fact that our employees look at our company as a place they enjoy working is an even bigger honor. They are really the reason we've received this award. Our employees gave Sheetz high marks for being a company they want to work for and we're proud of that.

This was the second year for the Best Employer awards to be given in the state of Ohio. The program was designed to identify, recognize and honor the best places of employment in Ohio. Sheetz' previous spot on the list was at No. 6.

Winners were chosen by the Best Companies Group through a two-part process of evaluation; 25% percent of a company's score is based on workplace policies, philosophy, systems and demographics, while 75% consists of an employee survey to measure the employee experience. The combined scores determined the final rankings.

The Sheetz chain was one of 10 companies of 250 employees or more to receive the honor; 10 additional awards were given to medium-sized companies.

Family owned and operated Sheetz, with more than $3.8 billion in revenue in 2006 and more than 11,000 employees, operates 334 convenience locations throughout Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Maryland, Virginia, Ohio and North Carolina.
