Kangaroo Express opens convenience store on Charlotte Motor Speedway infield

CONCORD, N.C. -- The Pantry Inc. has opened a new Kangaroo Express convenience store located on the infield at Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord, N.C. Grand opening celebrations will take place during the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race weekend, May 17 and 18.

Kangaroo Express is the exclusive convenience retailer at Charlotte Motor Speedway and the new infield store location marks the start of a three-year partnership. It is accessible to all infield campers and speedway guests during each NASCAR event day in May and October.

In addition to grabbing refreshments, snacks, alcoholic beverages and convenience items, race fans can refuel on fresh food options, such as hot dogs and Aunt M's Kitchen, known for seasoned fried chicken, sides and fresh sandwiches.

"Kangaroo Express is a community store, ready to serve our on-the-go guests with a fast and friendly experience," said Scott Smith, division vice president of Kangaroo Express. "Our integration with the communities we serve coupled with our fast pace environment align perfectly with Charlotte Motor Speedway, a North Carolina icon and racing landmark. The opening of the Kangaroo Express at Charlotte Motor Speedway is just the beginning of our ongoing partnership."

Members of the Roo Club will receive "V.I.P." treatment, including special access to reserved parking (first come, first serve), a free shuttle service and access to the Roo Lounge, where Roo Club members can take a break and relax. Fans can join the Roo Club by simply downloading the free Kangaroo Express app at www.kangarooexpress.com/mobileapps and gain entry by showing the app on their phone.

And Jeb Burton and the No. 4 Arrowhead team have announced the addition of Kangaroo Express to their Turner Scott Motorsports Silverado for the May 17 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) event at Charlotte Motor Speedway (CMS). Kangaroo Express will adorn the truck bed for the North Carolina Education Lottery 200, accompanying full-time sponsor Arrowhead. The Sunoco Rookie of the Year contender will continue his record-breaking season as he endeavors to claim his first-career win under the lights at CMS.

"Kangaroo Express is committed to serving our on-the-go guests with a fast and friendly experience, and joining forces with Turner Scott Motorsports and the No. 4 Arrowhead racing team shows just how fast we're ready to go," said Smith. "To celebrate this partnership, we would like to invite fans to come check out our new store infield at Charlotte Motor Speedway and meet Jeb Burton on May 17 as he gears up for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series."

The retailer is inviting race fans to kick off the grand opening celebration at an autograph signing with Jeb Burton and 2002 Daytona 500 winner Ward Burton on May 17. The father-son racing duo will meet with fans and sign memorabilia outside of the Kangaroo Express at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

"It's a really neat deal going on at Charlotte Motor Speedway, a Kangaroo express with all kinds of things for the race fans here on the infield," Ward Burton told WCNC-TV about the store, which will be open 24 hours a day.

Walking through the store, he was impressed with the large amount of variety packed into a relatively small space. "There are snacks of all kind of drinks, you also have some beer for the guys and the gals later in the evening, there are a bunch of soft drinks, sandwiches and even breakfast for the kids."

Store manager Dean Warber told the news outlet that the infield location really focuses on convenience for the fans. "Our pricing and everything is pretty much the same as it is at all our convenience stores, there is any kind of beverage you can think of, we have water, ketchup, mustard, if a customer comes in we don't have something they are looking for, we will take a note we'll get an order will have it on our next truck coming in here."

The store has delivery trucks that make daily trips to the track. "This is a neat facility to have here for the fans that camp out, they can come and get what they need to have an enjoyable weekend," said Warber.

During the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Pre-Race Ceremonies on May 18, Kangaroo Express will present a check for more than $1 million to Victory Junction, a camping environment for children with chronic medical conditions or serious illnesses. During its fifth annual fundraiser this year, Kangaroo Express collected donations for Victory Junction at more than 700 Kangaroo Express convenience stores in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia, as well as more than 100 restaurants at Kangaroo Express stores. Funds raised during this year's fundraiser will send more than 400 children ages six to 16 to summer camp.

Kangaroo Express is also a supporter of the military, raising millions of dollars for the USO and other military support organizations through its Salute Our Troops campaign. To thank local service members and their families, Kangaroo Express is providing the United States Veterans Corps and other military support organizations free tickets to the Sprint All-Star Race and upcoming NASCAR races at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

The Cary, N.C.-based company operates 1,567 stores in 13 states under select banners, primary Kangaroo Express.
